Award Interpretation Software

Take control of payroll compliance across your organisation.

Bring your Awards, Enterprise Agreements and pay arrangements into one agreed source of truth, kept current with Fair Work changes.

Know What You Need to Pay and Why

Payroll Standard combines visual award mapping with specialist support to help your business understand its obligations, agree how they apply and keep that interpretation current.

We turn complex rules into a visual map called a Payflow. It becomes the shared foundation for configuring systems, testing outcomes and answering pay questions, with each mapped rule traceable to its source.

Payroll Standard works alongside your existing payroll and workforce management systems.

Underpayment Is an Organisational Risk

A missed entitlement or inconsistent interpretation can become a recurring underpayment across your workforce. The consequences reach beyond payroll, affecting your finances, employee trust, reputation and leadership.

Intentional underpayment can also be a criminal offence, with penalties of up to 10 years’ imprisonment for individuals.

  • Do we understand our obligations?

Make entitlements, conditions and exceptions visible so your business can review how they apply.

  • Are our teams applying the same interpretation?

Resolve differing readings before they become inconsistent instructions, configuration or pay decisions.

  • Can we explain the decisions behind our pay rules?

Trace mapped rules to their clauses and retain a record of interpretations, approvals and changes.

Map the Rules to How Your Business Pays People

Your Award establishes minimum entitlements, but your organisation may offer more to attract skilled people, recognise experience or remain competitive.

Payroll Standard maps the compliance baseline, then captures the agreed arrangements that sit above it. Your Payflow reflects the obligations you need to meet and the commitments your business has made.

The compliance baseline

Relevant legislative, Award and Enterprise Agreement obligations.

Your organisation’s arrangements

Higher rates, additional payments and more generous entitlements established through agreements, contracts or policy.

Your agreed Payflow

One documented interpretation for your teams to review, approve and apply consistently.

See How the Rules Affect What People Are Paid

An entitlement can depend on conditions and exceptions spread across several clauses. A Payflow brings those relationships into a visual map, helping your team follow a scenario without having to reconstruct the logic from the agreement each time.

One Source of Truth for Consistent Pay Decisions

HR, IR and legal shape employment arrangements. Managers make decisions about work. Payroll processes the result.

Payroll Standard brings those teams around one documented interpretation. Differences are discussed, decisions are recorded and the business has a shared reference for how people should be paid.

Give Your People Clear Answers to Pay Questions

Give payroll, HR, managers and employees access to PAY-i, the chatbot that answers from your organisation’s approved Payflow.

People can ask about an entitlement or scenario in everyday language. PAY-i shows the supporting clause and highlights the path through the map, so they can see how it reached the answer and why it applies.

  • Apply the agreed rules

Give people answers based on your organisation’s interpretation, helping reduce inconsistent advice.

  • Check the reasoning

Follow the highlighted path and review the clauses behind the response.

  • Reduce the support burden

Let people resolve routine questions without another email, ticket or manual lookup, leaving specialists more time for issues that need their judgement.

Stay Up to Date with Fair Work Changes

An interpretation that was appropriate last year may need to change as your obligations evolve. Payroll Standard tracks relevant Fair Work updates and court decisions, then updates the underlying Payflow.

Updates flow through to your organisation’s version for review. Your team can accept or defer a change, with approvals and reasons for deferral recorded.

You have a maintained source of truth and a history of how your business responded as its obligations changed.

Check That Your Systems Reflect Your Agreed Rules

Documenting the interpretation establishes what should happen. Configuration, testing and payroll review help your business check whether that is what happens in practice.

Payroll Standard uses the same Payflow across these activities, connecting your approved decisions with the work needed to apply and verify them.

Your Award Interpretation Questions Answered

How Does Payroll Standard Support Payroll Compliance?

Payroll Standard helps your business understand its obligations, agree how they apply and maintain a documented interpretation as requirements change.

That interpretation provides a shared foundation for configuration, testing and pay questions. Related platform capabilities also support historical payroll recalculation, helping identify differences between actual payments and the amounts calculated under your agreed rules.

How Does Payroll Standard Work Alongside Our Payroll System?

Your payroll or workforce management system applies the rules it has been configured to use.

Payroll Standard gives your business a visible, agreed record of those rules, including the interpretation and decisions behind them. It provides a shared reference for the people configuring, testing and using your systems.

Can It Capture Our Enterprise Agreements and Above-Award Arrangements?

Yes. Payroll Standard maps the relevant obligations and captures your organisation’s agreed interpretation and arrangements above the compliance baseline.

Each Award or Enterprise Agreement has its own Payflow. The scope is agreed around the instruments and arrangements that apply to your workforce.

Who Decides the Interpretation?

Your organisation reviews and approves its interpretation, with the relevant stakeholders and advisers involved.

Payroll Standard helps document the rules and make differences visible so they can be discussed and resolved. The approved Payflow records the decisions the business has agreed. Your organisation remains responsible for meeting its obligations.

Does AI Decide How Our Employees Should Be Paid?

Your stakeholders decide and approve the interpretation documented in the Payflow. PAY-i uses those approved rules to answer questions.

Its responses show the supporting clause and highlight the relevant path through the map. If it cannot confidently answer a question, it says so.

Can People Outside Payroll Use PAY-i?

Yes. HR, managers and the wider workforce can use PAY-i as well as payroll.

It gives people a way to ask questions about your organisation’s pay rules without needing to find and connect every relevant clause themselves.

Are Fair Work Changes Applied Automatically?

Payroll Standard updates the underlying Payflow and brings relevant changes through to your organisation’s version for review. Your team decides whether to accept or defer each update, with a reason recorded for any deferral.

This process maintains your documented interpretation. Changes to payroll configuration are managed separately.
